Act 0 – Genesis
Every story has an origin—in Act 0 I recount the exact moment I first fell into cybersecurity after watching a data breach news report.

Introduction
Every story has an origin. Before the deep dives into network protocols, vulnerability scans, and forensic investigations, there’s a flash—a moment that lights the fuse. For me, that moment came when I first realized how fragile the digital world can be, and how compelling the challenge of defending it felt.
I still remember the evening I stumbled onto a news report about a massive data breach at a major corporation. As I watched the coverage, I was struck by two things: how casually we entrust every aspect of our lives to the invisible threads of the internet, and how devastating it can be when those threads snap. In that instant, I felt the pull of something greater than curiosity—I felt a responsibility.
That was Act 0: the setup. It wasn’t in a classroom or a lab; it was at my kitchen table, under the glow of a late-night television screen. I didn’t have a background in IT or programming, but I had a determination to learn. I grabbed every article, tutorial, and forum I could find. I taught myself the basics of Linux and Python, devoured OWASP guides, and started tinkering in virtual labs.
This journal is the genesis of that spark. Here, I’ll map out each milestone:
Fundamentals Mastery: How I went from “What’s SSH?” to running my own Kali VM.
First Forensics Challenge: Cracking my first Capture-The-Flag puzzle and the thrill of turning chaos into clarity.
Real-World Labs: My experiences on simulated corporate networks, misconfigurations that became teachable moments.
Certifications & Community: Tracking my path through Security+ and beyond—and the mentors I met along the way.
Above all, this is a story of transformation: from casual observer to active defender. Every post will chronicle the tools I learned, the mistakes I made, and the strategies that helped me grow. My hope is that, by sharing Act 0 and the acts to come, I’ll not only solidify my own understanding but also light a spark in others who, like me, want to protect what matters in our connected world.
Welcome to the journey. The firewall is down—let’s build it back up, one story at a time.
